Eco furnishing

The last few months has been hectic! On my 25th birthday when I began writing this, we still had know idea if our sale and purchase would go through, two weeks later we moved house! Its been a crazy four months and it feels like we have been go go go since, and its only going to get busier as we begin renovating our new house,

IMG_5881.JPGFour months in we are looking at renovating the house as eco consciously as possible- something we began the journey of in our first flat.

I began writing this about furnishing the flat in an ecology sensitive way, in the clam before the storm and the chaos of move. I still wanted to post it so please forgive the flashback

July 2019

We are drawing to a close our time in our first flat together. It’s a space our relationship grew even more than we thought, helped along the way by the trials of decorating and furnishing a flat for the first time.

On a very small budget we have created a space we love. We started decorating pre our push to be more and more eco so our paint and soft furnishings weren’t as eco as the could have been however, one thing we found a love of was hunting for furniture!

We fell in love with scouring for mid century pieces from the charity shops close to us. It was a romantic idea in the sense that we wanted to love furniture someone else had and give these pieces a new home; recycle and re-use, and not buy new and add to what’s already out there.

The weeks and months of searching through charity shops most weekends happenstance lead us to our furniture, giving us some funny stories to go along with them which makes them all the more special. I remember fondly carrying our bargain £15 sideboard across the town as delivery was far more than the piece itself and loved every second of the journey to get it into out home.

[every time I look round our house now, those memories have come with us and the furniture we chose (November 2019]

At the time it was cost effective to furnish the flat with secondhand furniture, but the benefits for the environment are such a bonus- we are defiantly continue to find second hand furniture for the next place we live. There is some amazing stuff out there, and we really enjoyed the act of looking for the pieces for the flat.

For the dubious, yes it takes time and patients, but if your willing to put time into it and enjoy the journey, its so worth it!
