The Journey to The Beginning

One summers day last year I ended up in a round house in front of a fire (at Flag Fenn as it happens) . In front of me were pots with leaves and material- later known to me as woad and madder.

The favourite thing I have ever made I created that day. Now that may sound a bit crazy. I have a Ba in Fine Art and an Ma in Curation, so throughout my life I have always made. So what lead me to ring my boyfriend telling him was going going to give up life as it is and go off to live in a round house and dye and make my own clothes?

In my art practice I make own black from pre-made pigment so over the years my interest in creating colour has always been there- but when I was stood there holding my piece of cloth that I had dyed myself something felt very real and just clicked and made me exited.

For Christmas I was given by my ever supportive boyfriend “Wild Dyer’ by Abigail Booth also known as Forest And Found. Her Book Has Basics of ideas of what to make, what to collect and what you need to know. A perfect place to start

Now, I haven’t gone off to live in a round house but I’m am currently poised over the buy now button of my amazon order to obtain the equipment I need to start dying.
